My Lipstick Personality- Flat Top!
I took my lipstick personality test online today! I not a huge horoscope fan (jk, I totally read it all the time but pretend I don't.). So when one of my students asked me if I had take the Lipstick Personality test and sent me the link... I totes took it.
here are 2 links, to me the tests are virtually the same but one has images, the other does not.
PersonalityTest.Net Lipstick test
GaGaGirl.com Lipstick test
Now my lipstick is always totally flat on the top! I am extremely hard on my lipsticks, LOL. Take a look!
Heres what a Flat top means:
1. If your lipstick has a flat tip
You are scrupulous
You are a woman of high moral standards
You need everybody's approval
You take care of yourself
You are trustworthy
You are a pussyfoot
You easily take decisions
You like to defy your destiny
A lot of this is spot on, maybe a couple out of place! Is yours accurate?

A fun weekend look with Snog Me!
My husband and I are about to load the kidlets up into the bike trailer and go for a bike ride. I thought I would snap a couple pictures of my makeup today to show you Snog Me.
Snog me is a muted burnt red-ish shade. I wore it today with my everyday blush- Bewildered Bronze. For a more dramatic look I would of paired it with Bitch Slap. I wore it casually today with an orange tank top and white split back t-shirt and my favorite stone necklace.

Cosmetic Chemistry 101: the INCI Naming System
I get asked about the names on the back of packages ALL the time. Surely a chemist can make sense of those strange words. Unfortunately that horrible confusing naming system used on the back of cosmetics is completely independent of the chemical naming system, or any other naming system, its called the INCI (International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients). The INCI dictionary is issued by the PCPC (Personal Care Product Council) an independent and self regulated branch of the cosmetic industry.
Personally as a chemist I dislike this naming system thoroughly. I love the strict IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) system. Its straight forward and every prefix, stem and suffix MEANS something. Even though the names get long sometimes, they are NEVER arbitrary and can be interpreted by knowing a simple system that I teach to grade 11 students in 2 sessions (each session only 1 hour long).
Now that I have ranted about that, let me get on with how INCI has organized its naming system.
- Common Ingredients: INCI uses Latin roots for natural components they call common ingredients. These are ingredients such as various oils and waxes. For these, I think the easiest reference without being blasted with pages of information is Soap Making blogs and websites like this one.
- Derivatives: Things start getting confusing when INCI starts naming derivatives from these oils and waxes. They developed a new system of naming totally separate and obscure from the IUPAC system, that simply has to be memorized to know. To make things confusing, instead of having the same stem meaning a number of carbons in all types of chemical families, INCI changes the stem name for different chemical groups. In the table below notice the stem name can be different for an alcohol or an acid.
- Chemical Polymers: The first synthetic ingredients we will discuss the naming of is polymers. The polymers are chemically made chains of carbon compounds. They are assigned a number that is simply assigned to them by the order they were registered (absolutely no chemical reference to structure at all)
- Other Industrially produced Chemicals (ex Parabens), these names are roughly based on IUPAC as they are usually shortened versions, like a chemical "nickname"
- Silicones all end in -icone
- Colors: You will see the name of the FD& C dye, the chemical name for a mineral or pigment or a Cosmetic Index number (a CI Number). The CI number is 5 digits long, and you can learn these, but must memorize them. Most commonly asked about is Carmine (which is not vegetarian or vegan). Look out for Carmine listed as Carmine, Natural Red 4, CI 75470, or E120
- A wierd fact that is in the process of changing is fragrance (no matter what it contains) can just simply be listed as fragrance.
I am sorry I cannot be more help! Next week I will elaborate with distinguishing for you the difference between fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and oils (this will actually help a lot I think)
